Opportunities
Our group works at the intersection of physics, fluid mechanics, applied mathematics, computation and geosciences. Our approach involves theory, modeling and laboratory experiments. We welcome applicants with strong background in any of these subjects and techniques.
Postdoctoral scholar: to apply, please email rubyfu+postdoc@caltech.edu with (1) a cover letter describing your background and research interests, (2) a curriculum vitae (a link is preferred; e.g. Box, Dropbox or Google Drive), and (3) contact information of 2-3 references. Candidates with external funding are preferred.
PhD positions: prospective students wishing to pursue a PhD in our group are encouraged to e-mail rubyfu+phd@caltech.edu. Please include a curriculum vitae (a link is preferred; e.g. Box, Dropbox or Google Drive) and a brief description of your research interest (e.g. what is your favorite class/project in college?) Students must apply directly to the MCE PhD program or the ESE PhD program (deadline is mid December). Please mention that you are interested in working with Ruby Fu on your application to help with the evaluation process.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities: undergraduate students, both at Caltech and other institutions, are encouraged to apply through the Caltech SURF program. If you are an underrepresented minority from any institution, you are also encouraged to apply to the WAVE fellow program at Caltech. You are always welcome to email rubyfu+uro@caltech.edu to let Ruby know your background and interests, how much time you would like to spend on a project, and what you hope to get out of your research experience. For summer 2025 SURF, please email Prof. Fu by the end of January 2025 to receive full consideration.
